Omnium rerum principia parva sunt (Cicero)

Cicero's quote is of course especially true for Rome, which started as a tiny city-state and turned into an Empire beyond anything the world had ever seen.

Things are busy here at Paradox before the holiday season. The dev-team is working intensely on Europa Universalis: Rome. The beta has opened and we are busy looking at the initial feedback. So far so good.

Personally I have been really happy with the design of the EU: Rome box. That is what our Art Director Stefan Thulin along with Josefina and me have been working on these last days. I think this box has a real shot at becoming a classic. Along with the special we are planning for the web shop orders this makes for the most fun I have had for a product… ever! You will see.

Let me also take this opportunity to, from all of us here at Paradox, wish you Happy Holidays and a great and prosperous 2008!

Supreme Ruler 2020

We just signed Supreme Ruler 2020 from Battlegoat Studios. This is a game that should be perfect for the fans of Hearts of Iron.

The first game in the series, Supreme Ruler 2010, received mixed reviews and I think the team has learnt a lot from that.

We welcome the cooperation with Battlegoat and really hope it will be a long-term relationship.

RTS, TBS or what?

Reading the previews and reviews on Galactic Assault, I see many people refer to it as an RTS game.

I wouldn't use that word; GA is less Supreme Commander than it is Panzer General. It is less Starcraft than it is Battle Isle (for all of you that remember this gem for the Amiga).

I would simply say it is a wargame, am I the only one using this term nowadays?

Global Conflict: Palestine

Tired of generic games without engaging story-line?

Check out the new engaging, emotional and though-provoking "Global Conflict: Palestine" from Serious Games, released today at Gamers Gate.

Read more about the game here

Again your Majesty?

It has been one of those days with many questions in my inbox when arriving at the office.
- "Why did you purchase Majesty IP?"
- "Are you going to stop creating Grand Strategy Games?"
- "I loved Majesty, are you going to stick to the original design when creating a sequel?"

First of all I am happy to see there are so many gamers who still care about the brand. Secondly we are not planning just to sit on the rights to the game, but to create something from it. I can also tell you that our plan is to not let it slow down our pace on creating great Grand Strategy Games. I'm afraid I can't say more at the moment, but I will keep you updated.

Galactic Assault

What is Galactic Assault? I got this question from a gamer last week. It can best be described as a mix between the old Panzer General and Massive Assault, with a little influence of Heroes of Might & Magic. We just released some new screenies of night combat that can be found on Gamespot

Gamers Gate just added 1C to the list of publishers and we are happy to see titles such as Star Wolves 2 and You Are Empty presented on GG. These are not even out in the traditional retail channels yet.

We are also getting closer to the release of Combat Mission: Shock Force. I hope you saw the unconventional warfare screens. If not, visit Gamespot

Valusoft and other things

We just added Valusoft to Gamers Gate. They have a wide range of products that we haven't worked with before including Casual games and Kids games. We are really looking forward to see how this develops.

The cover art of Combat Mission: Shock Force is close to complety. Nice to have a modern warefare cover for once :)

We are in negotiations on some other titles as well, including sci-fi and historical settings. More updates the coming weeks.

First reviews... again

Frontline: Fields of Thunder is getting some good first reviews:

Strategy Informer gives it 80%:
"If you played Blitzkrieg, you're going to be super excited by what Frontline has to throw at you."

Game Industry News rates Frontline 4/5:
If you like big battles and plenty or realism, then Frontline is the game for you.

Gamers Gate is also developing nicely. We just added our Kids tab with two games so far. Keep an eye on the site the coming weeks since we have a lot of things planned for release.

Gamers Gate

We have worked hard to get Gamers Gate to run smoothly and to get more attractive games up on the site. It seems our efforts hasn't been in wain since two quite big publishers have shown interest in what we are doing with GG.

We are soon opening new areas of interest such as kids and casual. More news will follow. :)

Commenting

Finally I've found out how to moderate comments and make them available on the site. Like they said when landing on the moon, a small step for one man...

Signing Combat Mission: Shock Force was fantastic. To have the opportunity to release a flagship title from Battlefront.com the same year as EU3 is just... Mmmmmm :)

...and climbing

EU3 did finally make it to the top of the PC game chart on Gamespot!

Who's number one?

As you can see, Europa Universalis 3 is currently the number one PC game on the Gamespot ranking! Well, except for that game you know, and its expansion.

You can calculate it your own way, I still say number one :)
